Connecting to our Internal GPS - June 2026

Regina Rosenthal | JUN 1

Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you've been, but also where you are going.  Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.
Nancy Simms

We are living through uncertain times and unanticipated challenges. However, this can be a time to create ways of being with, connecting, and supporting ourselves and others that we may not have considered before. We all have many ways to connect with what I call our internal GPS, which is like the GPS in our cars and phones. I believe our internal GPS is connected with our heart and soul. It carries our history, challenges, lessons learned, and wisdom gained on our life journeys. This internal GPS has brought us to this time in our lives, and can help map our journey and guide us as we move forward.

Reconnecting with our internal GPS through Self-care practices can provide insight and guidance for our journey. There are many ways to practice Self-care to restore balance, a sense of well-being, and to boost our resilience. Each practice will remind us of what still has heart and meaning, what brings joy. Self-care can involve physical activities – going for a walk, playing golf, going to the gym, taking a trip (or a nap), reading a book, listening and/or dancing to music, enjoying a creative hobby, being with family or friends, taking a class, or joining a club.

Beyond the physical benefits, Self-care practices also create enhanced mental, emotional, and spiritual health, insights, and well-being. In a world filled with distractions, it is mindful and heart-centered Self-care practices that bring me back home to myself and my internal GPS. At times, they create needed space between me and current challenges. I am grateful for times with others, when I am reminded I am not alone. A caring human voice can create a feeling of safety, a welcome diversion from worrisome, anxious, and confused voices ruminating in my mind during stressful times. Through time in nature, when I am filled with awe and wonder, I am reminded that my life also has different seasons, each bringing change and adjustments. Time in nature helps me regain connection with my human nature, times sung about by John Denver, “gee it’s good to be back home again, yes it is!”

When I recognize the need to balance doing and being, and consciously slow the pace I live my life, I see the world through fresh eyes. I recognize how little control I have at times, and my priorities shift. Moments of gratitude occur for my internal GPS connection and the Divine Sources that provide guidance and wisdom. During times of uncertainty, which we are now experiencing, I am reminded that it is compassion, love, laughter, beauty, creativity, and gratitude that bring insights, healing, and inner peace.
